Find out what blue could do for your bathroom

The new year is well under way, and the turning of the calendar has brought with it a host of new kitchen and bathroom trends for 2020. But there is one trend in particular that has caught our attention, and we believe that it merits yours as well, especially if you are considering a fresh look for your bathroom. The experts have weighed in and declared that the color blue is due for a big year in 2020, and we can confirm that a world of possibilities awaits once you’ve decided to explore incorporating blue into your bathroom color scheme.

Classic Blue is the Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone announced in December that classic blue would be taking center stage in the new year, earning the distinction of being their Color the Year for 2020. This blue hue is known for a calming feel and timeless look, and was described in the announcement by Pantone as being “elegant in its simplicity.” Pantone cited a “desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build” in making classic blue their choice at the start of a new decade.

If you are unfamiliar, Pantone is a consulting service that predicts global color trends and advises companies on color in brand identity and products. Pantone’s Color of the Year has been an annual tradition for over 20 years, and each year’s selection influences product development and purchasing decisions across a variety of industries.

Naval is the Sherwin-Williams Color the Year

Pantone was not alone in their prediction, as paint and coating manufacturer Sherwin-Williams named Naval as their Color of the Year for 2020. Sherwin-Williams made this selection in the spirit of wellness for the mind, body and soul, identifying Naval as a shade of blue that “creates a calm and grounding environment infused with quiet confidence.”

Naval is a deep shade of navy blue that, much like classic blue, is timeless, but there is a natural texture to it that evokes the night sky or the abyss of the sea. There is a sense of awe to it that can be empowering, infusing a sense of confidence into any space.

The fact that both Pantone and Sherwin-Williams are championing blue is a good indicator of the color’s growing power and popularity, but the different shades they have chosen to highlight also illuminate how versatile it can be once you delve into the different hues.

Create a spa-like look and feel with a blue bathroom

Blue is a natural color choice for bathrooms because it possesses certain reassuring qualities. Most people find a sense of peace and tranquility in the color blue. It invites reflection, and has a way of relaxing your thoughts to allow for greater concentration and focus.

White may be the most popular color choice for bathrooms at the moment, but make no mistake, blue is close behind — and gaining on it. The two colors already make for an iconic color combination, as blue and white together brighten and add drama to a space.

Central to the appeal of the color of blue is the variety of shades from which to choose. Most homeowners desire a spa-like feel for their bathrooms, and blue can often be the key to achieving it. You would be hard pressed to find a cleaner or more tranquil aesthetic than coloring your cabinets and countertops with soft shades of blue.

The more you dig into the different shades of blue, the more colors you’ll find with which to work. If you have a bathroom with a source of natural light, the perfect complement would be a color scheme of pale blue and white. It is a traditional color combination, and one that feels both warm and serene. On the opposite end of the color spectrum, the darker shades of blue, like coastal blue and midnight blue, offer even more versatility. Midnight blue, in particular, provides a striking color contrast when paired with white tiles and fixtures.

Blue Bathroom Vanities

If you are looking for a shade of blue for your bathroom that guests will associate with the ocean and the skies, much like Naval, consider a cobalt bathroom vanity from Bertch. Bertch’s cobalt is a soothing and peaceful color, capable of imbuing a space with stability and calmness. You can see for yourself in the bathroom vanity pictured below, which features cabinets with a Bertch cobalt finish, what a rich and cool color it is. Cobalt also pairs well with natural wood.

Blue cabinets in general have seen a spike in popularity over the past several years. Now highly sought after by trendy homeowners and remodelers, you’ll often see blue cabinets paired with white marble for contrast. Many homeowners are opting for darker shades of blue for their vanities and complementing them with brass fixtures like hardware and faucets.

One shade of blue you may not be familiar with is moon shadow. It is a softer hue than cobalt, for more of a calming and serene feel. And whereas cobalt has more in common with navy, moon shadow shares more similarities with classic blue. It is a color with a natural feel that would be right at home as part of a more earthy bathroom color scheme. While a blue moon may be a rare occurrence, a bathroom with a color scheme that incorporates moon shadow would be there every day to provide a tranquil and subdued space.

But the blue in your bathroom does not have to be limited to the vanity. There are more ways to incorporate the Color of the Year into your space, from painting the walls blue and pairing them with a light colored vanity to working more blue into the artwork of your bathroom decor.

Rest assured, we have only scratched the surface of what blue could do for your bathroom. Visit our nearest showroom and take a closer look at our selection of blue colors to find the perfect shade for your new bathroom vanity.
